How to Design Functional and Efficient Kitchens

Kitchens are one of the most important rooms in the home. They are where we cook, clean, and entertain. While they can be small and cramped, they can also be expansive and spacious. There are many different ways to create a kitchen that will fit your needs. Here are some tips on how to create a kitchen that is functional and efficient.

The kitchen work triangle refers to the stove, sink, and refrigerator. Ideally, the sink is located next to the stove, which is directly across from the fridge. If space is a factor, it is possible to put the sink at the base of a “U” shape.

A “one wall” kitchen is an example of a space-saving kitchen layout. This style of kitchen features cabinets installed against a single wall. It provides a clean aesthetic without sacrificing functionality. One wall kitchens can have upper and lower cabinets, shelving above the base cabinets, and display space on the top of the cabinets.

The L-shaped kitchen is another design option that can help you get the most out of your kitchen. Designed with two walls perpendicular to each other, this configuration offers flexibility in the appliances you place in your kitchen. However, a traditional work triangle is not possible with this design.

An L-shaped kitchen may have an additional table at the third wall. With this configuration, you can also add a breakfast nook.

In addition to the work triangle, you should also keep in mind that cooking surfaces should be located above non-combustible surfaces. Cooking surfaces should also be positioned 600mm away from operable windows.
