Jaffna prepares for polls

Ballot boxes, accompanied by one police officer and one election officer each, being taken from the Jaffna District Secretariat to polling stations today (July 22) morning. Ballot boxes to polling stations on small islands in the Jaffna District, such as Kayts, were taken by Navy vessels and SLAF helicopters, Jaffna District Secretariat sources stated.

Orphaned leopard cubs rescued in Puttalam

Even though leopards in Sri Lanka are notably found in the Wilpattu National Park these three orphaned leopard cubs were discovered in Thabbowa, Puttalam. The cubs were found by Karuwalagaswewa wildlife conservation officers who suspect that their mother leopard may have been killed. The unknown substance

This picture sent to us by a viewer who claimed that a certain amount of water and another substance was present in the petrol that was pumped into his motorbike from a filling station in Gampaha. The viewer claimed that his motorbike had malfunctioned after pumping the petrol and after inspection it was revealed that some other substance which was present in the petrol had caused the defect. On June 27, Minister Susil Premajayantha instructed the CPC Chairman, Harry Jayawardena to conduct an immediate inquiry into incidents alleging that substandard petrol had been imported and distributed. Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha notified in this regard following reports from several areas claiming that many three wheelers and motorcycles have rendered immobile after using this substandard petrol.
